John Boyle & Company
John Boyle & Company was founded in 1860 by John Boyle as a sail loft in Brooklyn, N.Y. With corporate offices in Statesville, N.C., Boyle manufactured and distributed materials used for awnings, signage, and tents, marine, military, geo textile and other outdoor and recreational applications. With more than 300,000 square feet of manufacturing, administration and distribution space, the Boyle facility offered extensive capabilities in knitting, coating and laminating.
The Astrup Company
The Astrup Company was founded in 1876 by William J.O. Astrup, a sail maker who emigrated to the U.S. from Denmark. Astrup, the oldest child born into a family of boat builders, opened a sail loft in Cleveland, Ohio with his wife, Margaret, as the seamstress. By 1884, as the days of commercial sailing ships were coming to an end, Astrup focused his attention on awnings and tents. Astrup began wholesaling canvas, and opened the first branch warehouse and office in New York City in 1929. As the years went by, the company's product line grew to offer more than 10,000 items through a network of 14 distribution centers.
