What is a grommet kit?
Grommet installation kits offer a set of tools and supplies needed to install grommets. The kit is intended for home use for small projects (great for one-off projects or for resale). The hand tool kit is great for installing grommets into upholstery fabric, curtains, outdoor fabric, and marine canvas. Available in five different sizes below, each home grommet kit comes with a grommet die, cutting punch, three dozen metal grommets and plain washers, a small cutting board, and detailed instructions.
How to use a grommet kit
Grommet tool sets are pretty straightforward to use. They include nearly everything you need (with the exception of the fabric and hammer). Each kit is compatible for use with a specific size of grommet (#0, #1, and so on).
First, place the cutting board beneath the fabric to avoid damage to the surface below. Then use the cutting punch to cut a hole in the fabric with a dead blow hammer or rawhide mallet. Rest the grommet on the coinciding die and position it underneath the fabric through the hole. Rest the washer on top of the fabric around the hole. Take the other part of the die set, place it on top, and give it a few swift blows with the hammer or mallet. This engages the grommet and washer and attaches them to the fabric.
