Ultra Tef-Gel® Marine Lubricant

Ultra Tef-Gel eliminates metal corrosion by eliminating electrolytes from entering the interface of the metallic surfaces. Tef-Gel marine lubricant paste contains 40% PTFE powder and 0% volatile solvents, silicones, or petroleum solvents to evaporate, which would leave voids for electrolytes to be drawn into. When both surfaces are coated and mated with Tef-Gel, there are no voids for electrolytes (saltwater) to be drawn in over extended periods of time.

Thread galling is a common yet seldom understood problem with threaded fasteners. Galling can occur when the surfaces of male and female threads are placed under heavy pressure. Stainless-steel fasteners are particularly susceptible to thread galling, although it also occurs in other alloys, such as aluminum and titanium. The use of an anti-seize product such as Tef-Gel helps prevent this. Ultra Tef-Gel #TG-04 comes in a 4-ounce tub and can be used for marine hardware, shade sail hardware, and more.

Galling can be minimized with the following measures:

• Thread lubrication is one of the most effective measures to decrease the potential for galling. The lubricant reduces friction, which is a key element in thread galling.
• There are some outstanding PTFE based coatings that can be applied to stainless-steel fasteners. They are able to drastically reduce the frictional coefficient.
